About Anna-Maria

Self-portrait from project “A personal visual diary of motherhood” (2022)

Anna-Maria Vaskovskaja (b. 1992) graduated from the Photography Department at Pallas University of Applied Sciences, where she developed a foundation in photographic theory and practice. During her studies, she also continued her education at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto in Porto, Portugal, where she lived from 2014 to 2017.

Anna-Maria is a freelance photographer and visual artist whose practice is centred on analogue photography. Her work is driven by an interest in themes that are both personally resonant and culturally embedded. She examines how certain subjects have been historically romanticised within cultural narratives and how these ideals continue to shape contemporary perception. Her practice also engages with questions of identity through introspective visual narratives. Alongside photography, she works with mixed media, combining photography, painting, and collage to create layered, tactile compositions.
